Toms - one speckled Sussex and the rest are rescue hens, barely a feather on them when I got them. Don't think the Sussex lays any more but the eggs I get from the others piss all over anything you'll get from a supermarket. Like you say, great animals.

What you got MAce?,

I had 8 hens about 5 years back, had variety of breeds, best layer was my hybrid rhode island red, also a lovely friendly bird as well, was gutted when she got ill and died.

Re: Re What happened to white eggs?
I get a couple of white ones from my little flock of 7 (SEVEN) hens.

No need to fuck about with bags and poaching accessories. Collect freshly laid egg (still warm) from neat box, crack it into a pan of simmering water and poach for a couple of mins. Comes out perfect, like a boiled egg without the shell.

Re: Re What happened to white eggs?
Fill a frying pan nearly to the top with water and bring to a simmer. Put eggs in water IN SHELL and roll around for 90 secs. Remove from pan for 90 secs and then crack eggs into still simmering water until cooked - about 3 mins. First 2 steps create a film on the white which keeps the final result circular.

Re: Re What happened to white eggs?

Depends on breed. The old man has about 20 chickens, all of different breeds and all lay different colour eggs. Gets green, brown, white and blue.

Re: Re What happened to white eggs?
Regular eggs are certainly better in the UK.

But having a bit of money means I don't buy regular eggs in either place.

Of anything for me, eggs have the most difference between organic and free range versus not.
